Referring to Butcher's comments about severely disabled students as "vegetables" during a public meeting in December 2004, Tureck said Butcher "holds some people to be of less value."

Butcher said Friday afternoon that Tureck "does not represent this area. He is a radical environmentalist and should be running for office in Missoula.

"There is nothing derogatory about 'vegetables.' It is a medical term." Butcher said.
